The course of the alternative route originates above Pinerolo with the junction of the same name. This Pinerolo East junction serves as a connecting intersection between the ex S.S. 23, the rural settlements along the Chisone and the inhabited area upstream.
Until the next junction of Pinerolo West at the boundary of the Municipality of Porte, thecurrent ex S.S. 23 roadway will be modified as part of the alternative route.
From the Pinerolo West junction, the alternative route crosses the Chisone on the new San Martino Bridge, and crosses the provincial road 166, which runs along the Chisone. The route then continues to the foot of the mountains and enters a first tunnel near the town of Porte (Craviale Tunnel, 1,145m).
The route re-emerges after a short section crossing the narrow valley of Rio Turinella on a viaduct and goes through another second tunnel (La Turina Tunnel). This tunnel ends after 664m near San Germano Chisone and crosses the Chisone stream with a viaduct 350.25m long on the ex S.S. 23 with a roundabout in the locality of Malanaggio on the boundary between Porte and Villar Perosa.
The roadway has a width of 13m with two lanes 3.75m wide. This width is also maintained on the road structures, while the section in the tunnel has an overall width of 10.5m.
