The main formal reference of the building is the environment, considered as the sum of the formal, historical and cultural values of the municipality. The outline of the surrounding mountains, the colour of the rocks, the greenery and plant species, all define a new volume divided into what appear to be three large stone blocks, set one in the other, almost like a rocky formation rising from the ground. The building adapts to the ground also because it is partially buried about 3 metres below road level, thus reducing the visual impact on the surrounding skyline.
The three blocks are aligned along three axes already defined by the existing construction: the “croix de ville”, the main road towards the mountain on which the Waldensian community has built its symbols, and the borders of the lot.
The Torre Pellice Ice Palace is designed as a structure that serves the community and sports. The building can be used a hockey rink, both during the Olympic period and especially afterwards, when local teams will use it.
The facility will function as a permanent ice palace, run by the Municipality of Torre Pellice and is characterised by maximum flexibility in the use of space, to host, in addition to the various sports events (on and off ice), also shows, entertainment and small fairs.
The areas set aside for various activities will result in further integration of the new facility with the locality and its community by providing diversified areas, which will become an area to socialize, meet and have fun all year round: office space for local associations and organisations, voluntary services, areas to socialize such as bars and restaurants, tourist accommodation with 12 rooms and outside equipment such as a rock wall, enabling the structure to be used throughout the year by the entire community.
In a total area of 16,800 sqm, an ice palace was built with a capacity of 2,500 spectators, a volume of 75,500 cum. and a covered area of 5,286 sqm.
The building is centrally located in the lot and oriented crossways. In this way, two large squares are formed:

- The town square, opposite the building, for use as a reception area
- The green square, behind the building towards the valley, for use as a sports area and for outdoor training.
From the interior, thanks to the unobstructed view ensured by the stands elevated about 2.5 m, the squares seem to be the natural extension of the playing field. During training or non-competitive events, the outside area will become a part of the interior.
Local traditions have been maintained, both in the choice of materials (Luserna stone, wood, etc.), and in the use of external lighting, which ensure suitable living conditions and use of the facility for educational purposes.
